PALAU DE LA MÚSICA · SHOSTAKÓVICH
Dmitri Shostakovich, inspired by hearing The Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach at the Leipzig Bach Festival in 1950, decided to create his own complete sonic universe: the 24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87. Bach had explored all the keys following a linear order, note by note, like a scale. Shostakovich inherited the idea but reinterpreted the journey: instead of a line, a circle. Following the order of the circle of fifths, each key connects to its closest harmonic neighbor, creating a closed and perfect system that returns exactly to its point of origin.
The poster translates this architecture into a visual cosmos: two concentric rings where the 24 keys orbit like planets, the major keys on the outside and the minor keys on the inside. A complete and symmetrical sonic universe.
